Improve Coaching Session
Improve- Coaching Session
It feels strange to have my coaching sessions coming to an end. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading and understanding the objectives required for each step discussed by Jim Knight. The Improve session went well. But as we discussed in our session it would have been awesome to see how our ELLevations strategy would have helped the students in their formal assessment. It would have been fun to observe Mrs. Trotter use the Study Stack and Jim Knight exit ticket with her students. I have seen how as a coach how the coachee appreciates the extra effort. Mrs. Trotter mentioned that she would like to extend the lesson with her goal and the activities I listed tied in well with the plan. She mentioned that she wanted to see the students be able to present and construct full sentences utilizing the vocabulary we covered in the lesson. The Next Steps Planning form was a great tool for planning our goals. I was able to cover the things we had accomplished and also cover the items we wanted to use in the next steps. I also want to revisit the ideas we discussed possibly using in the video. This coaching session taught me the value of creating a partnership and continuing to assist coachees who want to better themselves. I hope to continue to apply these practices with another elementary teacher in fall for my K-2 coaching segment. The hardest part of the Improve coaching session was making sure that I was able to adequately cover the criteria in the video. Some of the objectives were similar and others were hard to talk about since we were unable to put the ideas into practice a second time. I can say without a doubt I have grown to appreciate the concepts I learned and presented to Mrs. Trotter. It was nice to hear how she has been encouraged to continue using the ELLevations strategies with her students. In the fall I plan to continue to work with Mrs. Trotter and make some more checklists that cover her goals in the use of ELLevations.
