Improve Coaching Session

Image
Improve- Coaching Session It feels strange to have my coaching sessions coming to an end. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading and understanding the objectives required for each step discussed by Jim Knight. The Improve session went well. But as we discussed in our session it would have been awesome to see how our ELLevations strategy would have helped the students in their formal assessment. It would have been fun to observe Mrs. Trotter use the Study Stack and Jim Knight exit ticket with her students. I have seen how as a coach how the coachee appreciates the extra effort. Mrs. Trotter mentioned that she would like to extend the lesson with her goal and the activities I listed tied in well with the plan. She mentioned that she wanted to see the students be able to present and construct full sentences utilizing the vocabulary we covered in the lesson. The Next Steps Planning form was a great tool for planning our goals. I was able to cover the things we had accomplished and also cov...

Learn Coaching Session

Image
Learn- Coaching Session I would like to say it was easy making the transition to an online coaching format after the breakout of COVID-19. However, with the shift from one teacher to another, it was a bit difficult. The good news is that I was already coaching the teacher I transitioned too. Both my former and current mentee both had the same focus. They both want to utilize the ELLevations software application to reach their struggling ESOL populations. In the Learn segment of the coaching series, my mentee focused on the strategy, "Find Your Match." Mrs. Trotter focused her student's attention on finding keywords and supporting details using the ELLevations strategy. Another area that was difficult was learning how to record my online coaching session. Luckily I found out that through my teaching Google account I could record my meeting sessions and upload them into iMovie for editing.  In the initial part of my coaching session, I went over the 10 questions proposed...

Identify Coaching Session

Identify- Coaching Session I can say as Instructional Technology Coach in training it is difficult to figure exactly how to approach an observation and feel that you are covering all of the bases. Before my observations, I went to Jim Knight's website and printed off several of the PDFs he provided. This was aimed at focusing on the content Mrs. Johnson was covering in her lesson and I wanted to make sure she was able to achieve her goal of using the ELLevations strategy and effectively reach her ESOL population with the use of the closing activity. When I went in to observe her class I was able to observe the first class and learn what to look out for in my second observation. This helped with the transitions. Ideally, I wish I could have taped the lesson, this was not an option due to the county guidelines. It would have helped to rewatch the video to better assess the information provided by Knight's resources. I felt really good about our coaching session and from the vi...

Preparing for First Coaching Session

Image
Getting Ready- Preparing for my first Coaching Session 2-14-20 Today I met with Mrs. Johnson and discussed the format of how we would conduct the coaching sessions in a three-part series I used the "Are You Interested" forms and "Coaching Planning Form". We determined that she would focus on using existing software provided by the school called ELLevations which focuses on our ESOL populations. Initially, when we met on this day she planned to use the strategy, "In the details" and apply it to her lesson on the Exponential Functions Project. We determined that she would record the lesson on Monday 2-17-20 and I would review the lesson for our first coaching session. Because of issues with the cameras and an irregular day we had to change the scheduled lesson. I made the decision to take a personal day so I could go in and conduct an observation without the worries of filming due to the county guidelines.  2-24-20 Today I met with Mrs. Johnson to deter...
